First make sure you have HP Quick Launch installed if you want to only edit one or two keys but leave rest working, that is responsible for making all special keys like print, calc, touchsmart, dvd etc. Work, when hp quick launch is running, it works independent of the windows registry so trying to make edits in registry is useless. How to remap/disable annoying HP Envy special function keys. The others had strange key names: BrowserHome, calc.exe, and LaunchMail. There are 5 entries in a registry folder corresponding to some of the Quick Launch keys as well as mysterious nonexistant keys. First I'll mention the real keys, what they do, and how to change them.
Hello, i would like to know if there is a way to remap your keyboard to special characters without using any software. I know you can Use the windows Scan Codes to remap keys on your keyboard to have the function of another key. But is there any way to link it to some random ASCII or Unicode Character (like ▲), or like bind a key to execute some Alt+xxx to create the letter.
Also a random extra question: How can you take ownership of a registry key and set permissions after you got the ownership on command line, playing around with the registry at the moment and that would really help me.
I'm on my tablet now so I can't check this, but I think all you have to do is right click the registry key you want to take ownership of and the capability is there.
I do not want to use software, the program stores the keys in the registry, but i want to actually know where and how this is done.
I know how to work with 'Scancode Map', but the problem is that i want to bind keys that aren't actually on any keyboard. After i skim-read the 34 page documentation from Microsoft i could not come up with a solution.
Thanks for your reply though!
Apologise , should have scanned the article. Just blindly quoted. I think the Geek has one that actually diddles the registry directly. I thought that was it. I'll check around some more.
For the 2nd part,
